Example builds that actually go together

Every build below is made only of parts we measured ourselves, and the verdict you see is not our word for it — it is the checker’s own answer, run again each time this page loads.

These are not "the best" builds — we have no shop prices and no benchmark results. They are starting points to edit.

1080p gaming without overspending

An AM5 board with years of CPU upgrades ahead of it, and a card sized for a 1080p screen

✓ No problems found360W draw · 550W PSU recommendedOpen and edit →

Why these parts

  • The 7500F has no integrated graphics, which costs nothing here because the build has a card anyway — and it is meaningfully cheaper than the 7600X.
  • AM5 because the socket is still getting new processors: a future upgrade can be the CPU alone, without a new motherboard.
  • The RTX 5060 is 225mm long and the case takes 365mm, so there is room to spare.

The cheapest route, on DDR4

The only way to still use DDR4 in 2026 — and it genuinely costs less

✓ No problems found360W draw · 550W PSU recommendedOpen and edit →

Why these parts

  • The B760M-A D4 takes DDR4, which is still cheaper than DDR5. Buy a DDR5 board instead and DDR4 will not fit at all — the notch is in a different place.
  • The i5-14400F has no integrated graphics either, so a card is always required.
  • AM5 offers no DDR4 option at all. If DDR4 is the point, LGA1700 is the only way there.

Serious 1440p gaming

A 7800X3D, a card built for 1440p, and a supply with real headroom

✓ No problems found490W draw · 650W PSU recommendedOpen and edit →

Why these parts

  • The 7800X3D draws 120W but runs hotter than that number suggests, which is why a 240mm liquid cooler is in this build.
  • The RTX 4070 SUPER draws 220W from a 16-pin connector, which the RM850e provides natively, so no adapter. Across the whole machine an 850W supply leaves comfortable headroom.
  • The H5 Flow takes a 365mm card; this one is 308mm. It also fits the 240mm radiator.

A small machine for the desk

An ITX build where every part was measured to confirm it fits — the thing that goes wrong most often

✓ No problems found360W draw · 550W PSU recommendedOpen and edit →

Why these parts

  • The NR200P allows a 153mm cooler. The AXP90-X47 is 47mm; almost every tower cooler is over 150mm.
  • The case takes a 330mm card at most. At 225mm the RTX 5060 clears it easily.
  • The supply is SFX because most ITX cases will not take an ATX one. This is the step people miss most often.
